“I began knitting when I was young. I don’t remember when or who taught me, probably my mom, but it always made me feel good about myself,” begins Idaho-based designer Allyson of Lone Gems. “After years of school I entered a high-stress job that took its toll on my body and mind. During this time I took up knitting almost neurotically. It became in a sense my therapy and an outlet. It renewed my self-confidence because I always knew that if I just took my time, did the research, and asked the right questions I could make wonderful things. Each project I worked on, I forced myself to build on my existing skills, resolving problems to overcome obstacles in order to make unique knit items. My hope is for others to enjoy the items I make and to appreciate the historic art of needlework. Here in Boise, Idaho, The Gem State, I continue to knit every day. I have made some items just to challenge myself, but I also make items on commission. Each item is in a sense a lone work of art. Hence the shop name Lone Gems. If you have any questions about an item or want to have one made especially for you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.”https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/user/maker/8cb2d7f3-9292-4d6a-a612-6d7691cb425e
