Sheep drawn on bed of seaweed with the words Seaweed ShepherdessSian lives on Orkney’s most northerly island, North Ronaldsay, where the sheep live on the beach and eat seaweed. Their fleece is hand clipped and spun at the island’s own mini wool mill. Sian then naturally dyes the yarn using locally foraged materials, extracts and food waste. Sian also combines the North Ronaldsay wool with wool from Blue Faced Leicester sheep to create durable, nylon-free sock yarn. Sian runs a monthly sock yarn club, which contains a contrasting sock set and handmade treats from Scotland’s many islands. All Seaweed Shepherdess yarn is nylon free and non-superwash, keeping it as natural as possible and full of woolly goodness. Sian also has her own fiber flock, from which you can adopt a seaweed-eating sheep!
